To service the clock, first remove the instrument cowl secured by two large hex socket bolts under the dash. Remove the speedometer cable, the odometer reset control nut and the electrical wires and dismount the complete speedometer instrument pod secured by three nuts at the rear. After removing the push-fit clock time-setting knob and the front housing the clock unit can be extracted from the pod.
In addition to cleaning and lubricating the clock mechanism, adjust the balance wheel bearings to centralize the moving armature relative to the solenoid. (Warping of the printed circuit board carrying the solenoid is the most common cause of seizure).
As the regulator is inaccessible after the clock unit has been re-installed, adjust it for correct timekeeping before replacing the unit.
